The 2019-2024 Murano with the 3.5L V6 and XTronic CVT can develop shuddering or vibration during acceleration, slipping, delayed engagement, and eventual complete transmission failure, often between 40,000 and 80,000 miles. Inspection cues include transmission judder from a standstill and harsh engagement when shifting from Park to Reverse or Drive. If not addressed, internal belt and pulley wear leads to catastrophic failure, leaving the vehicle inoperable and stranded. Independent or dealer replacement typically costs about $5,800 for parts and labor out of warranty.
The 2019-2022 Murano, most commonly the 2019 and 2020 models, can have an infotainment head unit that freezes on the Nissan logo, takes ten minutes or more to boot, goes black, or fails to show the backup camera image when Reverse is engaged. This is a recurring electronics defect, not user error, and it also affects Apple CarPlay and Android Auto initialization. Loss of the backup camera reduces rear visibility when reversing and can lead to a complete head-unit failure. Replacing the OEM head unit with installation costs about $1,500 total.
The 3.5L V6 engine in the 2019-2020 Murano and some early 2021 models can develop a brake vacuum pump gasket leak, causing oil to weep from the engine block and contaminate the brake booster vacuum hose. Inspection cues include oil drips under the front of the vehicle, a burning oil smell, a hard brake pedal, and ABS, Brake, or Check Engine warning lights. Progressive loss of power-brake assist increases stopping distance and can also contaminate nearby wiring and components. Replacing the vacuum pump and gasket assembly typically costs about $750, or more if the brake booster is also contaminated.
